Friday Favorites: Eco-Friendly Amazon Products

Eco-Friendly Amazon Products

Over the last couple of years I’ve made an effort to replace everyday products with ones that are more eco-friendly. My biggest goal has been to try and limit my waste, especially plastics. I’ve found some great reusable products on Amazon that cut down on waste, work great, and are affordable. This post contains affiliate links.

Simple Modern Tumbler ($18.99) – I drink a lot of water throughout the day and hate to use the disposable cups at work or single-use plastic bottles. Plastic water bottles not only pollute the earth, they are also produced from petroleum. Over the last couple years I’ve tried quite a few reusable metal water bottles and tumblers – I try to avoid plastic ones, even if they are BPA free. Overall, I think Simple Modern makes the best tumblers of all the ones I’ve tried. They are also the most affordable with prices ranging from $13.99 to $23.99. I have several of their tumblers and they keep my ice from melting the longest, and also keep my hot drinks hotter the longest.  They also have different styles, sizes, and great color options to choose from.

Another popular brand that I see a lot and have tried is Corksicle. I don’t love my Corksicle tumbler and ultimately gave it up for the Simple Modern ones. I’ve found ice melts much faster in the Corcksicle and the seal on the lid is constantly flipping up and I have to fix it every time I open or shut the lid. The Classic Tumbler 24 oz costs $29.95 and, in my opinion, just isn’t worth the cost.

Reusable Straws ($12.21) – Plastic straws are really bad for the ocean and are responsible for killing a lot of marine life. I refuse to use them. Instead I use these great reusable silicone straws. They are dishwasher safe and a great alternative to single-use plastic straws. I also have wider reusable straws ($10.95) for smoothies and milkshakes.

Makeup Remover Towels ($9.99) – I used to love the disposable towelette makeup removing wipes. But frankly, they aren’t cheap when you are using them every day, and they are unnecessary waste. I ordered reusable minky makeup removing towels. They do a great job of getting my makeup off – even waterproof mascara. I use them with my facial cleanser, but they also do a pretty good job just with hot water. You could use them with makeup remover. After using a towel, I just throw it in the wash with my regular towels.

Biodegradable Dog Waste Bags ($9.99) – We take the dogs for a lot of walks and I always hated using plastic poop bags to pick up after them. I did some hunting and found these vegetable-based, biodegradable pet waste bags. They are thick and strong so you don’t have to worry about them ripping and making a mess. They don’t hold odor as well as the plastic ones, but still do a pretty god job, and it’s a trade off I’m willing to make to cut down on my plastic use.

Do you have any reusable or eco-friendly product that you love?

  • Dublin was amazing. I think I left a piece of my heart in Ireland. We were enjoying ourselves so much we didn’t stop to take many pictures. We explored the city, did a walking tour, spent time with old friends and made new ones, and went on a traditional Irish music pub crawl. It may sound cheesy but it truly was one of the highlights of our entire trip. If ever given the chance, do one. I was so sad to leave Ireland but I can’t wait to go back and explore the entire country.
  • We spent two days exploring Edinburgh. It’s a beautiful city with so much to see. We spent most of our time in the old part of the city walking the Royal Mile. We did a whiskey tour and saw an amazing collection at The Whiskey Experience. We also did a walking tour of the city, and saw where J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter. I also dragged David on a tour of the underground city and haunted graveyard - Greyfriars Kirk. The graveyard contains the famous haunted Black Mausoleum and headstones with many names familiar to fans of Harry Potter (Rowling allegedly got inspiration walking the graveyard). But most importantly, the graveyard is famous for Greyfriars Bobby, a loyal little dog that spent 14 years sitting by his owners grave. He’s has his own headstone now and people bring him sticks and dog toys. His statue outside the graveyard is the most photographed in Scotland.
