My DIY Gilmore Girls Shirts

Today I am heading up to my sister’s house for the week and wanted to surprise her with a Gilmore Girls themed shirt since we are both really excited to watch the new episodes. I’d looked for shirts to buy online but some of the nicer ones were expensive, and I figured I could try to make the shirts myself instead. I’d seen a tutorial on how to screen print at home using a vinyl cutter and had been wanting to give it a try.

It was a really simple process. The hardest part was finding screen printing ink, which I eventually found at Blick. I picked up some soft, basic long sleeved tees at Target, got organza and an embroidery hoop,  pulled my Silhouette Cameo out of the closet and got to work. I used the organza and hoop to make a sort of screen and the vinyl worked as a stencil for the paint. This tutorial explains the process much better than I can The whole process, including cutting the vinyl, took less than 30 minutes and the ink was dry within an hour.

My sister’s shirt came out a little darker than mine, and some of the lines could be cleaner, but for less than $15 each, I’m pretty happy with the results. I cant wait to wear our shirts while eating junk food and reuniting with Lorelei and Rory.

Soooooo I’m totally going to use this idea. Didn’t know you could do it home so easily.
