My First Time Scuba Diving

The sudden warm weather has me wishing I was sitting on a beach. I’d love to take a trip down to Florida this summer so that I can get my scuba diving certification. I went for the first time 5 years ago in Cozumel, Mexico and I absolutely fell in love with the sport.

I was on the cruise with friends and I was the only one from our group that wasn’t a certified diver. They were all going to spend the day on a dive so I decided to sign up for the beginner discovery dive that the cruise offered. I’d never really considered going scuba diving before, but since Cozumel has some of the clearest and most desirable waters for diving, I thought it’d be a shame to miss out on the opportunity. Being able to experience the ocean from below the surface, rather than above it, was enticing.

Burlington, Here We Come

Today David and I are heading up to Burlington, Vermont for our first trip of the year. We’ve been to Burlington before, but the small little town has a special place in both our hearts so we enjoy going back, especially in winter. It’s a beautiful winter wonderland.

I’m really excited for this trip because we are going snowboarding on one of the days we will be up there. In high school I lived close to a mountain and went snowboarding regularly during the winter. I was so excited to break out my board from when I was a teenager and that I’ll get to ride it tomorrow. I haven’t gone snowboarding in about 15 years, so hopefully I don’t wind up in a cast.

The rest of the trip isn’t fully planned, but we will visit some nearby breweries and make an obligatory stop at Ben & Jerry’s. I can’t wait to just walk down Church street and enjoy the local atmosphere.

I’ll be posting a lot of the trip on Sanpchat if you want to follow along here

Our Trip to Louisville

A few weeks ago David and I made  a road trip to Louisville. David collects bourbon and for his birthday in June I promised him we could go do the Bourbon Trail this fall. I’m not a fan of bourbon, but I was happy to be the designated driver while he got to do tastings and hunt for rare bottles.

Our first stop was Bardstown. We’d left Atlanta on Thursday afternoon and got to Bardstown around 2am. I slept in on Friday while David got up at 6am to go wait in line for a special release of some rare bourbons at Heaven Hill Distillery and Willett Distillery. After snagging a few bottles, he picked me up and we headed into town to grab some breakfast. After breakfast, we headed back to Willett so he could show it to me and to see if he could get some more bottles. The rick houses where they store the bourbon were creepy as hell. I thought they looked like an old prison or mental hospital.

Road Trip To Athens

Last weekend David and I loaded into a van with five friends and we headed to Athens for the night. We went with the express purpose of trying out two of the breweries there, but I was also pretty excited to see the city after hearing amazing things from my friends that went to UGA. Thankfully Athens is only a little over an hour from Atlanta because 7 adults in a mini-van was a tight squeeze.

Saratoga Springs

This past weekend David and I made a trip up to Saratoga Springs for one of his best friend’s weddings. It was my first time in Saratoga Springs and I loved the little city that was so full of charm. The streets were lined with grand old Victorian houses and the little downtown area was made up of adorable shops, restaurants, and bars.

On Thursday we got into town and met up with everyone at one of the local bars. It was great to catch up with everyone. On Friday, the day of the wedding, David and I went out and found a cute little place for breakfast, then he was off to see to his groomsman duties. I spent most of the day sleeping off all the beer I’d had the night before and grabbed coffee with the wife of one of the other groomsmen.

The wedding was absolutely beautiful and we had so much fun that I only managed to take one super grainy picture. David has a great, close-knit group of friends and hanging out with them and their significant others is always a great time.
