Friday Favorites: Recent Purchases I Love

Rothys Loafers: I’ve been looking for a comfortable pair of loafers but I hate buying shoes online without trying them on first. I finally took a chance when a coworker sent me a referral that gave me $20 off (I’m happy to send you one if you want to give these a try). These shoes are so comfortable that I’ve worn them every day since they arrived in the mail earlier this week. I have no doubt these will be my go-to shoes on out upcoming trip to the UK & Ireland. Other awesome perks of these shoes: they are machine washable and made out of recycled water bottles.

Born Derby Shoes: Speaking of our upcoming trip, I wanted a nicer shoe I could wear to dress up an casual outfit but that would also be comfortable enough to walk around and sightsee in. A lot of travel blogs I read recommended oxfords so I went on a hunt for a comfortable pair. These shoes have a really padded sole that will make being on my feet all day much easier and they look great with rolled up jeans, ankle pants, and even some dresses.

Trench Rain Coat: I’ve wanted a nice trench coat for a while, but since I can’t rationalize buying a Burberry trench, I went on the hunt and found this more affordable option. It has a great fit and has done a great job of keeping me dry so far.

Honorable mention is this trench that is a little shorter and that I found at Nordstrom Rack. It’s also less expensive.

Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Naturally Chic: I’m always on the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick and this shade is a winner. It’s fun and flirty but still neutral enough for everyday wear.

Colour Pop Mar Palette: I’ve wanted to get braver with my eyeshadow for a long time. I usually stick to basic neutral shades but when I saw this palette I fell in love. I ordered it in the hopes that it could push me outside my comfort zone. Unfortunately, I honestly haven’t tried out the bolder colors yet, but I’m loving the neutrals while I work up the courage.

I’m Losing My Hair

I'm Losing My Hair

A few days ago, I frantically came to the realization that I had been denying for months – I’m losing my hair.

Over the past 4 months, I’ve noticed that I’ve been shedding more than normal. After I wash my hair, the drain is covered and my hairbrush has to be cleaned weekly, when before I could go months before it was full of hair. I’d been telling myself I was imagining it, but it’s gotten to the point where it’s looking back at me in the mirror. Any hopeful doubt I had disappeared when I got my hair cut this weekend, and my hair stylist agreed I was shedding more than normal.

My Experiment with DIY Wash-Out Pastel Hair Dye

My Experiment with DIY Wash-Out Pastel Hair Dye

I get really bored when it comes to my hair and I’ve always wanted fun, pastel colored hair. In high school I had blue hair for a few weeks, but as a responsible adult with a job in a corporate firm, the fun colors would not fly. Then this summer I came up with the idea of trying a hair dye that washed out in a few days so I could have fun weekend hair.

I did some Googling and came across tons of praise for the temporary Water Color Hydrating Color Mask that is sold by Urban Outfitters. Unfortunately it was sold out so I kept looking for other options.

Then I saw this awesome blog post on how to make your own wash-out hydrating dye mask at home. The dye was supposed to wash out in 3 days, be gentle on your hair,  and seemed very easy to make so I decided to give it a try. I had a long weekend coming up, with a Dave Matthews concert, and I thought it would be the perfect occasion to have have lavender hair. I’d also like to note that I had a hair appointment later in the week so if it turned out to be a mess, I could get by with it up in a ponytail for a few days. I wasn’t sure it was even going to work.

DIY Fold-Over Elastic Hair Ties

 DIY Fold-Over Elastic Hair Ties

I’ve been using the fold-over elastic hair ties for years now and I love them. They are gentler on your hair than traditional hair ties and minimize hair breakage. The only thing is, I always lose them, often to one of the cats the like to steal them. I decided instead of paying $5 for 5 hair ties, I’d spend $5 and make 20 myself.
