Getting Into the Spirit of Halloween

As far as I’m concerned, Halloween is the best holiday there is. Every year I look forward to decorating the house, picking out candy, and when I have the time, coming up with a fun costume. Here are some of the ways I’m getting into the spirit of Halloween this year:

1| The first thing I did at the start of October was add some Halloween flair to the entryway table. I smile every time I walk in the front door and see it.

Our Trip to Louisville

A few weeks ago David and I made  a road trip to Louisville. David collects bourbon and for his birthday in June I promised him we could go do the Bourbon Trail this fall. I’m not a fan of bourbon, but I was happy to be the designated driver while he got to do tastings and hunt for rare bottles.

Our first stop was Bardstown. We’d left Atlanta on Thursday afternoon and got to Bardstown around 2am. I slept in on Friday while David got up at 6am to go wait in line for a special release of some rare bourbons at Heaven Hill Distillery and Willett Distillery. After snagging a few bottles, he picked me up and we headed into town to grab some breakfast. After breakfast, we headed back to Willett so he could show it to me and to see if he could get some more bottles. The rick houses where they store the bourbon were creepy as hell. I thought they looked like an old prison or mental hospital.

My Favorite Fall Traditions

Over the years, David and I have started some fall traditions that I now look forward to every year.

1| Pumpkin Patch – Visiting a pumpkin patch may be my favorite of our fall traditions. We go out, find the perfect pumpkin, and cut it off the vine. We usually spend a good amount of time disagreeing on which is the perfect pumpkin, but it’s such a fun experience. Plus most of the pumpkin patches around here have farm animals which means I get to play with goats.

When Adopting a Rescue Dog Doesn’t Go As Planned

When Adopting a Rescue Dog Doesn't Go As Planned
In January we adopted Bernie. To say the last 8 months have been challenging and not what we expected would be an understatement.

We got Bernie from a very well known and reputable rescue shelter in the area. We were told he was around 2 years old, had no aggression issues, and that he was great with cats. When we went to meet him he seemed indifferent towards David and I, but he and Sophie, our 2 year old Peekapoo, instantly clicked. We even tested him with the shelter’s cats since we had 3 at home. He had no real reaction to them. Once we brought him home, and he started to get comfortable, it became clear we were going to have a few issues.
